On October 16th, the Cape Fox Board of Directors held the third quarter Cape Fox Corporation Board meeting in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Board conducted regular company business, which included quarterly meetings for the federal, commercial, and lands subsidiaries. The Board reviewed feedback from the 46th Annual Meeting of Shareholders and discussed opportunities to increase shareholder participation in Annual Meetings. The Board also reviewed a variety of proposals regarding conservation and use of Cape Fox Corporation lands. Finally, the Board was briefed on the status of the Cape Fox Lodge renovations and reviewed potential opportunities related to the development of the new Ward Cove cruise ship docks.
Following the Board meeting, Cape Fox Board members attended the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) convention at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. The three-day convention included briefings on state and federal government trends, policies, and programs that impact Alaska Native organizations. One of the highlights of the conference was a keynote address by Pete Kaiser, the 2019 Iditarod Champion, and special remarks by US Senators from Alaska Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and US Alaska Congressman Don Young. There were many informational topics including, Public safety in rural Alaska, Building a Strong Alaska, and Violence against Native Women and Children. Throughout the events and the evening were cultural celebrations with traditional dances and songs.
