The holidays are often a time of year to celebrate and appreciate what we have in our lives. It is also a time of year when people feel the need to spread their cheer by opening their hearts and wallets to those less fortunate than themselves. Cape Fox Corporation (CFC) has been blessed with success, and we feel a sense of gratitude to the community for their continual support of the organization. In response to this gratitude, CFC, in partnership with the City of Saxman, opened our hearts and held a warming gifts fundraiser for those less fortunate in the community.
The Warming Gifts fundraiser gathered and distributed supplies meant to warm unhoused and under-resourced people in the greater Ketchikan area. Each “Saxman warming kit” contained a plush blanket, a hooded sweatshirt, a rain jacket, hand warmers, hot chocolate packages, emergency Meals Ready-to-Eat, and a $25 gift card to Heen Kahidi. For this fundraiser, The Village Store donated many of the supplies in the warming gift by giving 20 rain jackets, 20 hoodies, 20 hats, 20 gloves, and 125 masks.
The City of Saxman conceived of this idea to build “warming kits” that could be delivered directly to individuals who are living outside as the cold winter months begin. Saxman city leaders purchased hand warmers and hot chocolate packets, while the CCTHITA VPSO program donated boxes of Meals Ready-To-Eat. The Ketchikan Indian Community, the federally recognized tribal government for Ketchikan, donated about a dozen hoodies for the distribution event. CFC’s own John Denny spearheaded and coordinated the distribution with the City of Saxman, along with Marshall Beard and Christian Cedeno.
This was another worthwhile community endeavor in which CFC was uplifted to participate. The Saxman community is our community, and we support each other. CFC is grateful to share so much with others because Cape Fox Cares!
