    Welcome Shareholders

Our Cape Fox Corporation Shareholders include almost 400 Tlingit Alaska Natives who live and work around the world, but who’s heart and heritage lie in Southeast, Alaska and the Village of Saxman. Our Shareholders are the backbone of our corporation.

As CFC grows, we want our Shareholders to continue to feel connected and engaged.  CFC invests in our Shareholders through academic programs and scholarships, employment and training opportunities, and community outreach programs.  A sense of community and familiy is always at the heart of Tlingit natives.  Our Shareholders can feel assured that we work and speak on their behalf to increase the sense of community and family because our Shareholders are the Faces of Cape Fox.

    Shareholder Spotlights

    Shareholder Spotlight – Lisa Milne-DeWitt

Language serves not only as a medium of communication but also as a fundamental component of culture, reflecting and shaping the societal values and beliefs of a community. In many cases, such as with the Alaska Natives of Saxman, their cultural language is endangered. A language is considered endangered when there are only a limited number of native speakers. The preservation of a language relies on its transmission from parents to children. A language faces endangerment when it is no longer passed down through generations, often due to a shift towards a more dominant language driven by social and economic factors. For many Alaska Natives, there was a generation that was compelled to abandon their native language, accelerating the endangerment of Tlingit beyond what would have occurred naturally.

    Shareholder Spotlight – Janet Anderson

When anyone stays at Cape Fox Lodge (CFL), they may not understand and appreciate the work our employees do each day to ensure everyone’s stay is clean, warm, and the best that can be offered. The employees behind the scenes have made our Lodge a premier tourist attraction and such a success. This year’s Shareholder Spotlight highlights one such extraordinary employee, Janet Anderson, Housekeeping Manager for CFL.

Shareholder Spotlight – Richard Shields, Sr.

Often, there are people in this world who make us sit up and pay attention every time they speak. Each story or anecdote becomes a jewel of learning and meaning. These are the people often referred to as living legends, and this year, Cape Fox Corporation (CFC) is spotlighting one of its greatest living legends, Richard Shields, Sr. Being a legend can mean you are famous, but it also means that you live your life well and purposeful and act as an example to others. Richard is an example of the true meaning of a legend. When he speaks, people are interested. There may be a softness to his voice, but the weight of his words often touches and makes people respond to what he is saying. We are delighted to spotlight this remarkable son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, grandfather, community leader, and former CFC Board member.

Shareholder Spotlight – Tlingit Elder Sarah Abbott

Sarah Abbott is a known Elder among the Tlingit of the Village of Saxman. Her refections of the past remain lessons to future generations. Cape Fox Corporation (CFC) reveres its elders for the knowledge and insights they can impart and the lessons they can teach. This year for our CFC Shareholder Spotlight, we recognize Sarah Abbott as a Tlingit elder, Shareholder, and woman who has passed on traditions that would be of value today to the younger generations.

    Shareholder Spotlight – Jennifer Tavares

Cape Fox Corporation (CFC) has employees and Shareholders who are on the front lines of the fight over COVID-19. This year for our CFC Shareholder Spotlight, we are recognizing one of the Shareholders on those front lines, Jennifer Tavares. Jennifer Tavares actually began her career as a pre-school teacher. However, throughout her life, she had a passion for medicine and healthcare. Her husband helped her realize that instead of teaching and caring for young kids, she could expand her skills and do something she loved. So, Jennifer took a leap in her life to do something for which she was passionate, healthcare.

Shareholder Spotlight – Kenneth “Kelly” White
